How on Earth?

This morning, "Raging Bull" woke us up at the ridiculous time of 5:50a. And when I walked into the room to calm him down, the stench of urine was ABSURD! (Sorry, T.M.I.?) Not to fret...I'd invested in Huggies' Overnights.

Let's focus in on a few key facts of that package:

1) The size - 5...for over 27 lbs. That should cover Cole, easily, and I could make them work for Eli...even though he's barely 27 lbs, right?

2) They've highlighted the "Extra Absorbency". Sweet! That's what I need. I'm tired of changing soaked boys every morning. The more absorbent, the better, in my mind.

Sorry...back to this morning...I reached for Cole...soaked! And not just a little. A lot. REALLY? So, rather than just picking up Cole and cuddling with him in my bed until 6:30, I had to change his ENTIRE outfit and diaper...losing ALL possibility of getting him back to sleep. Ugh!

Around 7:15a, I went upstairs to bring down Ava and Eli for breakfast (I could hear them playing in their cribs...so cute!) Brought Ava down...no problem. Went back up for Eli and could tell right away that he was soaked through. How is that possible? Frustrated, I grabbed an outfit for him and layed him on the changing pad. That's when I realized I should have read the fine print...

Okay, now seriously. How on earth does a boy who has an 8 ounce bottle of milk before bed EXPLODE an OVERNIGHT DIAPER? There were "innerds" of the diaper all up his onesie! I have NEVER had that happen to one of my children. Not even on a super long car ride with a regular diaper. The only time I've seen it was when a friend forgot to put a swim diaper on her daughter before she played in the kiddie pool. I wanted to do a little experiment and try to recreate the explosion while measuring how much liquid it'd take, but Shane wouldn't let me. He said I was a tad out of control.  Still...I might try it tomorrow.

We haven't done that though we have exploded loads of regular ones. And I am just realizing that your boys are as big as my girls!! And they're what? A year apart? Wild.

We just had this discussion on our multiples board - have you tried maxi pads inside the diapers for extra absorbency - weird I know. I may try it - Julianna leaks a LOT and she can leak during the day too in a matter of hours. I don't know where it comes from. Though my son was a lot worse - maybe it's a boy thing :)

Oh man! I'd totally be doing an experiment too....

So the question is, did you put them in those diapers again tonight?

I would absolutely be doing an experiment... question for you, are the kids moving to sippy cups yet? if so, my pediatrician (my 2nd, used only on my third child as an infant) recommended dropping the "Bedtime bottle" once they started the sippy cup....no particular reason other than timing. I was like "absolutely not, that bottle is our insurance policy" well guess what? it was true, cooper never woke up for lack of food, and woke up a little drier too.. I remember katie being QUEEN of soaking diapers through at night (I used to go a size up for bedtime) and ellie too...but cooper, rarely... just a thought.

I want to see the experiment. Maybe its a boy thing, but the diaper thing is outrageous. Seriously! It's a night time diaper for a reason!

You totally have to document the experiment if you do it!! :) I think it's a boy thing (of course, I wouldn't know if it's a girl thing, but I digress....) :) My boys had those little gel things on them all the time...

P.S. Glad I made you laugh with my last post :)

Ugh...that happened way to often with Cal. The explosive diaper is just gross!

LOL Amy-- that's too funny! If you go to the Diapers.com site, try getting the bio diapers -- they are AMAZING and hold infinite amounts of urine, without those gross gel ball explosions (AND they don't have the chemicals and are the only giodegradeable dipes-- it's a win/win thing) LOL

I found your blog through the blog frog - cute kids!!! I relate with your nighttime issues... my son nis 26lb and SOAKS a super thick cloth diaper thats SUPPOSE to hold the super soakers overnight. Not him. I don't think that much liquid goes in him... so how can that much come out?!?!? Anyways - back to your experience, a friend accidently put a size 4 in the washing machine... it didn't explode, but boy did it come out huge!! too funny. Try the experiment!!!
